Introduction to Stumpwork

Beginning Canvaswork: From Nancy’s Needle’s
Spring Quilt

Class limited to six students
Learn how to prepare your canvas for stitching, how to read a canvaswork chart, and some basic stitches. Get started on the Spring Quilt; complete it on your own. Kit includes canvas, threads, stretcher bars, tacks, and needle.
Beginning Stumpwork: Calla Lily

Beginning Punchneedle: Merrey Design Seashell

Learn the proper technique for threading a punchneedle and punching a simple, colorful design. Once you’ve mastered a few steps, you’ll be hooked! Fee includes fabric with printed design, floss, and doodle cloth. Students will need to purchase a punchneedle and hoop at the first session, or bring their own.
Beginning Cross-Stitch

Intermediate Canvaswork: Orna Willis’s Gayle

Have you admired Orna's beautiful geometrics but been hesitant to try one? Take the plunge with this dynamic piece, offering 4 colorways on 18-count canvas. Use a handful of stitches — some twisted, some laid, and of course some Jessicas — to practice using your laying tool and play with a mixture of 17 different cotton and metallic threads. Bring a stand, frame weight, or clamp.
Beyond Beginning II: More Fun with Specialty Stitches — A First Sampler

Now that you've been cross-stitching over 2 on linen, it's time to try a small sampler and expand your stitch vocabulary. Join us in working Elizabeth’s Designs’ Pastel Alphabet on 28-count linen. We'll review technique, learn some stitches, and discuss design applications for them.
Advanced Canvaswork: Patricia Spencer’s Twister

First 2 sessions: March 9 & April 13, 12–4 pm
Class limited to four students
Twister is a dynamic exercise in texture and color theory, done on 24-count congress cloth, and a good challenge for the intermediate to advanced needlepointer. The class will meet once a month for 8 sessions, starting in March. Each session will be an instructional stitch-along. The first meeting will cover laying out and planning the project. At the second session, we’ll choose further meeting times. Register early to allow time if customizing the colorway and to get your kit ready! Bring stand, frame weight, or clamp.
Introduction to Drawn Thread

Ready to take the challenge and cut some threads? Join us in this fun class, stitching a lovely floral sampler that combines specialty stitches and the basics of drawn thread work. Learn a variety of openwork and woven stitches that will add exciting variety to your needlework. We’ll also look at scissors that work for cut-work.
